History

 History:

1974
  • Founded as Firex Corporation in a small shared office and lab facility in Glenview, Illinois.
1975
  • Moved product development to a small office and lab in Northbrook, Illinois
1976
  • Shifted focus to residential smoke alarms after further product development and market analysis.
1977
  • Relocated to Downers Grove, Illinois to prepare for production and assembly.

1978

  • First smoke alarm sold to wholesale market under the Firex brand name.
1981
  • Began development of residential smoke alarms for consumer market.

1982

  • Created Seatt Corporation as our parent company. Changed Firex Corporation to Invensys Controls for sales directed to the contractor market. Maintained Firex as the smoke alarm brand name. First smoke alarm sold to consumer market under the Jameson brand name.
  • First retail smoke detector sold – Jameson

1984

  • Relocated manufacturing to Chihuahua, Mexico and distribution to El Paso, Texas to reduce costs.

1987

  • First thermostat sold under SaverStat brand name.

1988

  • First AC hardware smoke alarm with battery backup.

1991

  • First duct detector sold under the Firex brand name.

1992

  • First photoelectric smoke alarm sale

1994

  • First carbon monoxide detector sold under the Air-Guard™ brand name.

1995

  • Manufacturing of SaverStat thermostats started at Chihuahua.
  • International smoke alarm sales were launched.

1996

  • Seatt sold to Coleman and becomes Coleman Safety & Security
  • Coleman "Sheltra" brand launched at retail to Wal-Mart, Target, Sears and Home Depot

1997

  • Became primary supplier to Home Depot for smoke detectors
  • Introduce "9700" thermostats

1998

  • Invensys Controls sold to Siebe plc Coleman "Sheltra" converted to "Firex" Uni-Line merged into Invensys Controls Paragon Electric Company merged into Invensys Controls Thermostats re-branded to Robertshaw
  • First combo photoelectric/ionization smoke alarm introduced

1999

  • Firex 5000 smoke alarm launched Invensys Controls wins Invensys CEO award for inventory Enerstat merged into Invensys Controls 9515 and 9615 thermostats introduced
  • Siebe and BTR merged to become Invensys

2000

  • New DSL-300SC, DSL-450SC, DSL-600SC and DSL-700SC Enerstat Non-programmable Digital Communicating Thermostats introduced Invensys Controls (previously known as Eaton) now sold through Uni-Line New Uni-Line Catalog released
  • Pilot Ignition Uni-Kits 712-022 are released

2001

  • New SlimZone Deluxe zoning panel is introduced New Robertshaw 9555 digital thermostat introduced Ranco and Paragon Commercial Defrost Controls integrated into Uni-LIne/Invensys Controls Company New FirexDuct Detector 2650-660/661 introduced
  • Invensys Insight thermostat introduced

2002

  • Firex 2650-760 compact duct smoke detector introduced Firex 4671 tamper-proof lithium battery ionization smoke alarm introduced Firex 6045 carbon monoxide alarm introduced
  • Robertshaw 9400 series of digital thermostats introduced

2003

  • Firex 7000 combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarm introduced Robertshaw 800 series of line voltage thermostats launched Building System integrated into Invensys Controls
  • Com-Trol integrated into Invensys Controls
